Home Page for Amateur Radio Station ET3JD
This is the home website for Amateur Radio station ET3JD. ET3JD is Jim
DeLoach, a US radio amateur operator (WU0I) and US Foreign Service
Officer presently stationed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On this site I will post
information about my operation from here in Ethiopia.
QSL Information:
For now, I plan to only accept direct QSL cards to:
Jim DeLoach, ET3JD
2030 Addis Ababa Place
Dulles VA 20189-2030
USA
Please include a self-addressed envelope, and indicate if you would like my
QSL card to come back via U.S. mail (probably more reliable) or Ethiopian
mail (pretty stamp and more exotic.) No preference stated means I will use
whichever is cheapest for your QTH.
As far as I know, the Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society (EARS) is not
connected to any QSL bureau, so please don't send cards that way. I am
exploring the use of online QSL methods including eQSL and LOTW, but
access here to the Internet from residential locations is pretty scarce, so no
promises.
Current Status of Station ET3JD:
last updated 6 September 2009
Formalities for the importation of my amateur radio equipment are wrapping
up, and I expect to have the gear, and the permission to use it, completed
within 2 weeks. Next will come construction of an antenna and the
deployment of my equipment. I expect to be on the air by about October.
Modes I anticipate using include PSK31 and possibly RTTY (for contests
mostly), SSB, and CW. My CW is pretty rusty, so please be patient with
me! I'm not sure yet which bands I will end up using most, but for sure I will
try to get on 40, 20 and 15 meters, plus I would really like to spend more
time on the WARC bands -- particularly 30 and 17 meters. I will be using
home-made wire antennas, and plan to experiment with different designs.
